Bulgarian split squats done well are a game changer for leg training!
Despite being performed on one leg, with practice they can typically be performed with slightly more than half of your 1 rep max, providing the same strength stimulus for the quads (if not better) while cutting the stress on the spine by almost half. When performed for reps, this also allows lifters to train in higher volumes with less central nervous system fatigue, leading to greater strength and hypertrophy gains. Unilateral training in general is also excellent for preventing and addressing asymmetries, or working around injuries.
Depending on the exercise, a common drawback is balance being the limiting factor, often due to improvised setups like a bench or box that is too high, unstable, or simply not fit for purpose.Â
Unlike a bench or box, our A Frame features multiple height settings allowing lifters to set their desired position, and a specifically designed rear pad that supports the foot / shin securely whilst rolling with its natural movement throughout the exercise.Â

The Trap Bar 2.0 has an open design, making it perfect for split squats and lunges in general. Unlike Dumbbells, both hands are connected to the same frame, partially eliminating swaying and making balance that little bit easier. You can also hold on to more weight, and it's safer to drop.

By holding on to a rack or separate bar (like a Hatfield Squat), balance is almost completely taken out of the equation, allowing the lifter to focus on maxing out. Combined with the deep stretch and easier technique, these are even more brutal than traditional barbell squats.
